A Collection of Youth Immigrant Stories of Students by Students.

Created in 2024, Narratives of New Canadian Youth is a Toronto-based photography project aimed at highlighting issues faced by student immigrants. Each anecdote provides insight into the daily lives of immigrant students from around Canada.

“I was inspired to create this project in part due to the writings of Brandon Stanton, and his work with Humans of New York. I felt that the inclusion of photography added a face to the issues which affect thousands every day, and made a much more impactful story.”

- Clayton Yang, Founder

“In recent years, the rise of anti-immigration sentiments on social media became a big driving force behind why I wanted to do this. I remember scrolling through social media and seeing demonstrations against immigrants in the same communities that I once grew up in.”

“I’ve noticed it too with many of my fellow peers, how there is a disconnect between the many different communities at school. It’s not hostility, but there is definitely a sense of alienation between many of the students”

“Being the son of immigrants, I felt extraordinarily passionate about this issue, and wanted to combine my love of photography and journalism to create change.”
